Gala Honorary Speaker

Corporal Casey Owens USMC (Ret.) Remembered Through
2018 Gala Honorary Speaker

Casey Owens will always be a hero to his sister. And Helping Our Heroes Foundation is excited to announce Lezleigh Kleibrink, loving sister, mother, wife and Semper Fi Fund volunteer will be our honorary speaker this year at the 2018 Helping Our Heroes Gala being held on Saturday, Sepetember 8, 2018 at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.

Corporal Casey Owens USMC (Ret.) was a United States Marine, Iraq War veteran, and Paralympic athlete. Corporal Owens deployed for a second tour in Al Anbar Province Iraq August 2004. On Sept. 20, 2004, while responding to a wounded Marine, his vehicle struck two anti-tank mines which resulted in the amputation of his right leg above the knee and his left leg below the knee. In addition to losing both legs, his injuries included a broken jaw and collarbone, shrapnel wounds, collapsed lungs, and blood clots in his lungs.
Corporal Owens had multiple issues to overcome, and became an advocate for the treatment of Veterans, speaking to Congress about how difficult it was for Veterans to navigate the maze of regulations the VA has in place. Corporal Owens struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder despite his many accomplishments, and eventually took his own life.

This story is one Lezleigh continues to share with others about her brother’s heroics, struggles and the person he truly was before, during and after his service to our country.   We are excited this year she will share it with us.

Please join us as we hear this story and honor the service of not only Corporal Owens but all the heroes that have served our country.
