Dear Patrons, Sponsors and Volunteers,
It has been brought to our attention that a charity in Houston, Texas named Helping a Hero has been in the news this week accused of non-transparent finances. We would like to make it clear that this organization is in no way affiliated with Helping Our Heroes. Our main fundraiser is an annual dinner and golf tournament held each September. The vision is to support charities that directly support these heroes and do not have a robust fund raising operation in house. Each year the Board of Directors selects a charity to be the beneficiary of our fund raising activities. All proceeds from the funds raised - net of direct expenses - go to the selected Charity. No one receives any compensation.
Our current beneficiary is the Semper Fi Fund. Started in 2011, Helping Our Heroes donated $50,000 dollars in 2011, $100,000 dollars in 2012, $80,000 dollars in 2013 and will make a $100,000 donation in 2014 to the Semper Fi Fund. The Board of Directors for Helping Our Heroes want to make sure that our generous sponsors, donors and participants do not confuse the two charities. “The contributions are given where people are told they will go - to the Semper Fi Fund to help injured Marines and sailors and their families”, said Trip Bomar President of Helping Our Heroes.
